Contentsthe climate in Florence must have changed considerably if it is cold; he needs to get used to the weather; she is pleased that she and her family are now not going to Florence; she would not fit in and the relationship would not be changed by her visit in Florence; she has given up hope; she has grown older; is pleased that he can work in Florence; is sure that he will produce something good; wants to know what he is working on; at times she has the feeling that all threads between them have been cut; advises him, in Johns' name, to do exercises as they will be good for his nerves; advises him to take time off for riding or walking in the 'Böcklin landscape'; has heard that Arnold Böcklin is back in Florence; thanks him for the etching of a lobster, the first etching to start her off on collecting etchings; she is desperate because John [Johann Nicolaus Hertz] will leave for Berlin in two weeks, where he will stay for three years; she knows that her letter is not cheerful, but she has nothing to laugh about; reminds him of the etching by [Max] Klinger 'Und doch': a man standing in the shade, but only up to his neck; finally light falls on his head
