| Contents | last night the [International Congress of the History of Art] congress finished with a meal in Pschorrbräu; he was pleased having attended the congress and met so many leading experts in his field; he noticed how well he was treated by leading authorities, Julius Lessing, from Berlin, and was impressed by A.W.F. Carstanjen, from Munich, [Max] Schmid, from Aachen, Wolfgang von Oettingen, from Düsseldorf; all the old Schmarsow students met again, unfortunately without poor Ernst Burmeister; Warburg, however, disliked Schmarsow's behaviour, like a clumsy actor and autocrat; what interested Warburg most were the discussions on the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz; the incapable Professor [Max Georg] Zimmermann was relieved of his post; but all the other decisions will be taken at the next congress, in Budapest in 1896; nobody is in charge, however; thinks that [H.] Ulmann might be a good appointment; Ulmann might visit the Warburg family in Hamburg as his brother has got engaged to Miss Luce, Hamburg, Mittelweg 27; informs them that he has been baptized; they should treat him nicely, but not cordially; Warburg hopes to speak with Felix in Frankfurt later in the day |
