| Contents | apologizes for late reply but Aby and Mary Warburg went on a trip through Umbria and enjoyed greatly the landscape in the spring and the artistic impressions, the paintings by Piero della Francesca in Arezzo; 'open air paintings in mat and yet colourful tinges are the most grandiose pieces of wall paintings from the middle of the 15th century'; Alice [Franchetti] and her husband agreed with Aby and Mary Warburg; it was wonderful to watch Leopoldo Franchetti walk across his huge estate and hear him making plans for the farmers on his land; Alice and Leopoldo are very loving to each other, but will probably not have children; their castle is grandiose; Detta [Marietta Warburg] stayed behind in Florence with Nanny Elisabeth [Hennigs]; Warburg gave a short lecture in the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz; there is prospect for its support by the [German] state; Warburg received a very good letter from Paul [Warburg]; Paul understands it as Nina's duty to her parents and brother Jim [James Loeb] to settle in New York; Warburg has no longer anything against the move, as Paul will remain with M. M.Warburg & Co; Charlotte [Warburg] wrote to Warburg that Paul found that Jacob [Schiff] has aged; how is young Rothschild getting on?; why have Rothschilds given up the house in Frankfurt?; sends greetings to parents; Agnes [Raphael] has sent a good photograph of a sarcophagus to Warburg; asks about Erich's portrait painting, finds it nice that Max and Alice Warburg have commissioned [Wilhelmine] Niels |
