| Contents | thanks for her letter and card and a nice letter by Ernst Schwedeler-Meyer; is pleased to read that Malice [Max and Alice Warburg] are getting on again; it is a pity that Detta [Marietta Warburg] is not with him in Florence, but it would not be a good idea to send her with Elisabeth [Hennigs]; he does not like Elisabeth, finds her pretentious, affected; thanks Mary for a cable in which she reassured him that Max Adolph is gaining weight; the fact that Saenger's child died is not as bad as it sounds because it had hydrocephalus; Warburg met Professor [Vittorio] Rossi; Warburg also introduced von Weidmann to the Italian quattrocento; hopes that Mary's visit at Percy [Ernst ]Schramm's was nice; asks whether the little Schramm daughter [Ruth?] had scarlet fever; does not allow Detta [Marietta Warburg] to visit the Schramm house; refers to Mary's statement that her moods do not manifest themselves in her art; explains the reason for it, Mary is too modest, too charming, internalizes everything, qualities which he likes, although they do not help one with everyday concerns; Alessio Servi delivered the striped cushions; Warburg muses that his letters are always a 'zibaldone' [in Italian in the original], an 'author's notebook', the Florentine milieu makes him nervous |
