Contentsit is the day of Karl Rathgen's funeral, long and many speeches by pastor [Carl Friedrich Michael] Meinhof, the Dean [Hermann] Kümmell, two former students, Max Warburg as representative of the Chamber of Commerce; student fraternities in full regalia and with flags flanked the coffin; everything was very dignified; Mary will look after Mrs. [Emilie] Rathgen a little bit; Max Warburg collected Mary in the car and on the return journey they gave a lift to [the politician] Piter Piter [should this be Peter Petersen?] who sends greetings and will write soon; he, like so many other Hamburg friends, did not know whether he was allowed to write to Warburg; Max Adolph sends cheerful letters from Plön, even if he finds the last weeks of school boring
