Contentsthanks for letter and compliment card for Jimmy [James Paul Warburg]; Mary has been at Kösterberg for a few days, post will be delayed somewhat; next day she will return to Hamburg, she will collect Catherine [Katharine Warburg/Kay Swift], Jimmy's wife, together with Anna [Warburg], as Jimmy [James Paul Warburg] and Max Warburg have gone to Berlin; has sent yellow and white envelopes and writing paper; Warburg seems to dislike Bodmer and Mary thought as much as soon as she met [Heinrich] Bodmer; his work in the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz will be different from what it was so far; but he might be the right man to safeguard the German interests in Florence; does not know why he wants to publish something on the Carraccis [Agostino and Ludovico Carracci] and on Bologna; on Max Adolph: Max Warburg agreed to Max Adolph's plans to paint in the summer semester; Max Adolph did not want to tell Warburg at the beginning of the semester, because he did not know how long he would be away form Heidelberg; everybody knows that news agitate Warburg so that everybody is anxious not to aggravate the situation; this as explanation for behaviour which Warburg calls 'lack of openness'; it is difficult for Mary to do the best for both parties, for Warburg and for the children; also, it is a generational conflict, as Warburg only knows too well from his own youth; thinks that the trip to Italy will do Max Adolph a world of good; Max Adolph will redouble his efforts in the winter semester; Thiede will not join him, he visited Italy the previous year, but his friend Kraiher will join the painting expedition; Mary will visit Maggie O'Swald; the previous day she visited Anna Merck; Frede enjoys her holidays, loves little Charlotte [Charlotte Esther Warburg]
