Contentsthe result of his trip to Florence in the autumn of 1927 was that his view counts in the committee of the Knsthistorisches Institut; on the financial situation of the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz; the director [Heinrich] Bodmer is 'clumsy', has neglected to purchase the most important items, books and photographs; Robert von Hirsch, in Frankfurt, offered money, Frieda Warburg in New York sent money, Warburg gave money and a copy of Marc Rosenberg's 'Merkzeichen der Goldschmiede'; is proud that he could help the Institute fulfil its function with relative small sums; tells him of a meeting between James Loeb and Friedrich Schmidt-Ott in which Loeb mentioned in glowing tones that it had been thanks to Schmidt-Ott's initiative that Breslau university offered Warburg a professorship [in 1906]; Warburg, who was grateful to Schmidt-Ott for the recognition and invitation then, is somewhat embarrassed that Loeb talked about in an 'exaggerated' fashion; he tells all this to Max to show him that James Loeb was in a bad way; however, Loeb has written to Warburg and mentioned that he realized that the conversation was inflated
