| Contents | tells him of an incident in the night from 27 to 28/12/1881, when he heard footsteps and thought an intruder was in the house; he called Ernst, the servant, to investigate; it turned out that it was the chimneysweep; wonders how Warburg would have dealt with the situation; on 28/12/1881 he gave Paul a mathematics lesson, on 29/12/1881 he had piano lessons but does not bother Warburg with telling him what he was playing as Warburg is 'an unmusical child'; he also had English and Latin lessons; tells him of a split in the Jewish community, one party for, the other against the rabbi; there was a meeting of those who were against the rabbi, under the chairmanship of Moses Heilbut; Mr. Mainz spoke very eloquently, but offended many people; it came to a fight which had to be broken up by the police; the Heilbut faction won, which is in Max Warburg's eyes 'a pity'; re invitation to L. [Leo] Schönfeld: he could go, because the period of 30 days mourning has passed, but he does not want to go; sends greetings from Franziska Jahns, Olga, Louise, Fritz Warburg, Miss Baruch, Robert Götz, Alberto Philipp, Oscar Götz |
