| Contents | on his seminar paper on Kant's Prolegomena to 'Critique of Pure Reason'; he found it difficult but Professor [Theobald] Ziegler found it satisfactory; Warburg feels he is on the right way and cannot bring himself to despise academic opponents as he wants to progress on his way accepting everybody else he encounters; the students and teachers he has met and got to know better behave decently; he is depressed, though, that people point at him and call him 'a Jew' in the street; the other day, Christian students in the restaurant 'Germania' imitated talking Yiddish when he entered; he is depressed that the parliament still legislates that Jews cannot become Reserve Officers; the only practical method to improve the situation, to penetrate society as a whole, would be to recognize the worth of the individual, whoever he might be; but everywhere one feels that one is dealing with 'nationalist parvenus'; is thinking of involving himself in solving the Jewish question because one has the right to deal with burning issues; his great grandchildren might become professors, or rather his great grand nephews, as he is resolved to stay single; muses that he must look 'Oriental' to the people around him; signs himself as 'Fair-haired' |
