| Contents | father and Paul play snooker in the next room; the snooker room is the most comfortable room in the house; Max is in the living room, writing his diary; Max will go on a trip to Berlin, Vienna and Florence; Paul has become a different person since he has started his charitable work; he runs around in the dirtiest roads, visits those in need of support, meets very desperate people, negotiates with landlords, tries his utmost to convince them to drop the rent, which he achieves each time; the Hamburg middle classes have raised much money, one does not see what hard times the city is going through; the people, however, look haggard; she attended a charity performance in Thaliatheater together with her parents, Max and Paul; she does not keep him informed on the progress of the building work in the house as he will see it for himself soon; how is he getting on with riding?; did [Otto?] Meissner write to him?; aunt Kätie [Katharina Oppenheim], when accompanied by Olga Warburg and John Hertz to the train station, teased Olga endlessly with Mr. Meierfeld; she and John [Johann Nicolaus] Hertz were very ill at ease and annoyed with her; asks him to tell Kätie [Katharina Oppenheim] that it is pure nonsense; sends greetings to grandmother, Felix Warburg, aunt [Katharina Oppenheim], uncle [Moritz Nathan Oppenheim], Miss [Selma] Fliess; Charlotte also sends greetings to everybody and to Dr. Herz |
