| Contents | he no longer has to live in barracks; detailed account how he got the permission from the sergeant; the second piece of good news is that his horse Tuba will be taken out of service; he enjoys riding and is happy that he had classes in the Roth riding school in Frankfurt before coming to Karlsruhe; he was introduced to Major Freiherr von Amstetter who gave a pep talk; Warburg gets up at 3,45am, drinks tea, has time to wash and arrives at the barracks with Dr. [Alfred] Doren at 4,30; he changes into his overalls, goes into the stable, cleans Tuba; changes into his riding suit, has breakfast in the dining room of his rank, followed by riding, cleaning, drill; lunch, work in the stable, instruction time - the recruits have to stand - and finally three free hours in the evening; sometimes he visits Paulus [Paul Ruben] and has supper with him; he goes to bed by 9pm, dead tired; he misses his nap after lunch; John [Johann Nicolaus] Hertz will be able to leave barracks in two days; Warburg has no time to read anything |
