| Contents | she has tried to see the future as he has mentioned it in his previous letter; maybe she has a bad influence on his academic work; but then she looked at her book of proverbs and found one which said that if one can believe, everything will be possible; she cannot do anything else but shout 'I have faith, O dear Lord, help my unbelieving!'; learning to live with hardship only means to become worthy of a better life; a friend of Adolph Jacob [her brother] died in the previous week, he had been married for two years; can he understand what it must mean to cope with such a fate?; still, Mary and Warburg have each other and can embrace each other, if only in their thoughts; it is quite clear that, for the moment, he cannot think of art history; but she is certain he will be able to achieve something great; he has become such an integral part of her inner life that she cannot ban him from her thoughts; why does he think she would be unhappy with him?; making one person happy is more for her than painting thousand pictures; likens their relationship to the little man and woman in a weather house: if the man is out, she is in, and vice versa |
