Contentshe has a throat infection and therefore has time to write to her; he hates the secrecy of their relationship, because both of them do not deserve it; he could not visit her [on 29/12/1892] because he felt paralyzed; on the last day of his holiday in Hamburg he received a letter of appreciation from old Jacob Burckhardt, in Basle, whose opinion [on Warburg's PhD] is the most important opinion for Warburg; he cannot ask for more, yet he is in himself empty and restless; agrees with her, justice is not everything; he awaits his 'Damascus' [experience], but fears that he will end up lying on the ground, under the horse; everything would be different and natural if she had been his wife for the last four years; he is very angry
