| Contents | despite his promise to write daily he cannot do so; he spent the evening of 09/11/1893 with the very large Abrahamson family [in Copenhagen]; he felt uneasy with them and then in Gothenburg, because as an eligible bachelor he was pursued relentlessly and watched the whole time; the Jews in Copenhagen 'have already become blond' and are totally assimilated; he left Copenhagen on 10/11/1893, Meyer [Ernst Schwedeler-Meyer?] accompanied him to the train and Warburg learnt that his wife had died five years earlier; Warburg enjoyed the train journey from Copenhagen to Helsingör, meadows, woods, charming houses; in Helsingborg the passengers were examined for Cholera; he has to report to the police in Gothenburg daily as proof that he does not have Cholera; the train journey to Gothenburg is beautiful, fields are surrounded by stone heaps; the houses are of wood, painted red, with green moss roofs; the air is clear, the colours are strong, he is reminded of Japan; Gothenburg is a clean little town, with a harbour and far too many relatives for his liking; the people are nice, but dwelling on one's family is something like self admiration; on 11/11/1893 there was a ball at Ernst Magnus's, on 12/11/1893 a large dinner party at Pontus Fürstenberg's and in the evening he will attend a family dinner at A. [Adolph] Magnus's, who has four daughters [Elise, Karin, Anna Lisa and Gertrud]; comments that the Swedes eat and drink far too much; they dance well but more wildly than the Germans; admires the collection of paintings in Pontus Fürstenberg's house; notes that women work as barbers |
