Contentsapologizes for her last letter, it was dictated not by her heart, but by her pride; she had really thought that everything had finished between them; how could she only think like that?; it was the result of his behaviour in Hamburg and the long time when he had not written to her; he might understand that her pride did not allow her to run after somebody who neither wanted nor needed her love; she will only stop believing in a future for them both, if Warburg tells her that their relationship is finished; hopes that he enjoys his stay in Rome; sends greetings to Max L. [Max Liebermann]; is looking forward to reports of his work; is very happy that she still has the right to receive his reports; she really had a very bad time, thinking that everything had come to an end; has spring come to Rome?; she has picked snowdrops to take to the funeral of her grandmother [Mrs. Gossler]; she has progressed in her art, but has to fight against indifference; but she made progress, due to her teacher Miss [Wilhelmine] Niels; she feels she could learn a great deal from her, but she has heard that Niels will leave Hamburg for one to two years; Mary does not know what to do if Miss Niels really leaves Hamburg; she has started making pen drawings; she read a review by [Hermann] Helfferich [alias Emil Heilbut] on the 'Dilettantenausstellung'; her name was mentioned and her exhibits, a vase with small figures, the watercolour paintings 'Blumenwiese' and 'Heideflußlandschaft'; she is working again on a vase and she has gone to live drawing classes at Miss Niels's; there is an exhibition of Max Klinger's etchings at Commeter'sche Kunsthandlung und Verlagsanstalt; mother's Nurse [Helene Peters] is going on holiday so that Mary has to take over from her again
