| Contents | the previous day they left Ostend; the Schiff family accompanied them to the train, Felix accompanied them to the boat half an hour later; Felix will have written to his siblings that he will sail to New York in November for the official engagement, return after some weeks and stay for 3 to 4 months in Hamburg in the bank; he will then leave Hamburg in the spring of 1895 to get married in New York; asks them not to talk about it to anybody; the Warburg family like Frieda [Schiff] very much, her parents behaved very well, they are not 'showy' at all; Jacob Schiff is strict, does not tolerate being contradicted and still does not permit Felix to write to Frieda; instead he will write to Felix once a week; Frieda regretted not having met Warburg, otherwise she has met the whole Warburg family; Mr. [Simon] Kra and Mr. Lirmann [should it be Liermann?] met them in Paris; Lirmann's little son brought them a huge bunch of flowers; they did not get the rooms they wanted in the hotel, but hope that they can move in the evening; last night they dined in Rue Geoffrey Marie 5, then went to Grand Hotel where they met Director Hertz from Vienna, whom they knew from Ostend; he took them to 'Scala', a 'Café chantant'; they plan to return to Hamburg on 25/09/1894; when will Warburg travel to Cologne?; will the family move back from Niendorf to Hamburg on 24-25/09/1894?; it is a pity that Olga cannot help as she will have to attend the wedding of Amélie [Oppenheim]; advises them to make apple jelly with the crop from Niendorf, Auguste knows how to do this; is very pleased for Anna [Blumenfeld] to have a little daughter |
