ContentsWarburg's brother Max has written that, in view of father Hertz's answer, Max sees only one solution for Warburg: getting married without the permission of his father; Warburg's financial independence will not be at stake; repeats what Max wrote: it should be the man, and not the woman, if somebody has to bear the brunt of paternal non-agreement; Warburg agrees with his brother; they now have to clarify whether Mary's father will agree to the marriage without Warburg's father's consent; he thinks this might be possible, it is in Warburg's and Mary's hands; but he is plagued by doubts, he is 'morally burnt out'; he still does not feel at home in Paris, he needs a good friend at his side; he had a good friend in Berlin [Johann Nicolaus Hertz]; he is getting more and more depressed, the weather is bad; he visited the Edmond de Rothschild collection which he found very interesting
