| Contents | Olga thanks her very much for the sketch she sent her; calls Mary 'far too modest'; the sketch reminds her vividly of the view of Fiesole; mentions Alice [Hallgarten]; thanks for New Year greetings; the flowers which [Aby and Warburg] sent arrived in full bloom in Hamburg; for the centenary of the family bank the whole house was decorated with flowers; on 01/01/1898 86 well-wishers called at the family house and next day many official delegates called at the office; Bieben spoke in the name of the employees; [Georg] Hulbe spoke, Moritz Warburg spoke; a delegation of bankers, some 30 men, attended and presented a silver vase on a marble plinth to father; all the employees and Dr. [Heinrich] Embden were invited for a meal; Max Warburg has surprised his father with photographs of the bank's overseas business partners; calls the centenary a 'private celebration', an occasion for showing gratitude to one's great grandparents, grandparents, parents; only, the women do not contribute to the business, they only watch it with interest; the house was decorated with palm trees, the decoration was really over the top; it was a pity that Panina [Paul and Nina Warburg] could not be with them; Warburgs had photographs of Bubi [James Paul Warburg] and Carola; Senator Adolph Ferdinand Hertz and Adolph Jacob Hertz attended;Charlotte confirms what Olga has written, the festivities on Saturday 01/01 and Sunday 02/01/1898 went very well; thanks them for flowers; it is a pity Warburg and Mary cannot see the flower arrangements, the Norddeutsche Bank, Commerzbank and Deutsche Bank each have sent a whole table with flower arrangements |
