| Contents | refers to the Easter celebrations and festivities they have seen in Florence; a torch-lit procession in Prato on Good Friday; on the Saturday in Holy Week they saw the 'Scoppio del Carro' ['explosion of the cart'], a strange tower-shaped carriage in front of the cathedral; [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] stood high up on the campanile and watched everything from there ['angels' perspective']; at noon the bells started ringing, a dove was released from inside the cathedral which, on flying out, set off the fireworks on the carriage; four white oxen, with gilded horns and wreaths, were yoked up for the carriage and driven into Via Calzaiuoli; Warburg is interested in and wants to research the origin of this custom; the festival season has started, [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] plan to attend the fancy-dress ball in Palazzo Vecchio on 26/04/1898; they want to make their own inexpensive costumes; hope that Max will arrive soon; [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] had planned to visit Max L. Strack and his wife [Lore] on the Riviera, but it was not possible; [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] plan to travel to Pisa for one day in the next few days |
