ContentsMary explains that when Warburg sent a card of complaints it was a sure sign of nervosity or overwork; he suffered with pains in the eyes and nervous pains; the hard work in the archive, without heat and in poor light, took its toll; in such a situation Warburg's vision is such that he only sees half of everything; the weather is bad in Florence, cold winds, so that they do not go out; their friend [André] Jolles came in the morning to read to Warburg; Aby and Mary Warburg met Rudolf Warburg frequently, either in their home or in the hotel, and like his wife very much; Rudolf Warburg told them also of the dinner party at Oppenheims'; Marietta is cheerful as ever despite a cough which she got from the maid Lucia; requests the recipe for an entrée, chopped celeriac bake; sends greetings to Moritz, Louise, Malice [Max and Alice Warburg], Panina [Paul and Nina Warburg], Franziska [Jahns]; Warburg thanks for Charlotte's letter; his vision has improved; diagnoses his condition as 'neurasthenic accommodation struggle' ['neurasthenischer Accomodationskrampf']
