| Contents | Warburg sends New Year greetings; may the new century bring many beautiful things!; the old century has brought them many favours, it has brought the Warburg children harmonious marriages and the Warburg parents a number of young families; wishes that his own capacity for work increases, as he wants to do so much more if only he could work more; his eyesight has improved but he has to be careful; after 'a century of mobility' he wishes for 'a culture of permanence' in the new century or at least the acceptance that it would be a good thing; mentions the fights between the Boers and the English [in South Africa]; the Boers demonstrate their own way of thinking, the English will lose their fight, something which Warburg welcomes otherwise 'John Bull' would become too 'cheeky'; [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] will spend the eve of the New Year with Steffens, [Robert and Philippine] Davidsohn, Heinrich and Else Brockhaus, [Emilie and Alceste] Giorgetti, [Charles] Loeser, [André] Jolles, Miss [Mathilde] Mönckeberg; Mrs. [Jessie] Hillebrand's health is improving, [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] visit her every Monday; Mary and Marietta send New Year greetings; hopes that the whole family will meet in the next year; Marietta is developing very well, she is a very intelligent child; forwards photographs and asks Fritz to stick them into the album of Florence photographs |
