ContentsPaul writes very contented letters from his travels in Italy; Warburg is right, Paul's problem is that he is not egotistical; he always only wants to help other people, he always hides his light under a bushel, he is far too modest; is pleased that Warburg is working well, advises him to write directly to Oberschulbehörde in Hamburg with an offer to give lectures; the Oberschulbehörde might not have written to Warburg because they do not want to get a rejection; after Barnum Warburg's lectures had been the lectures with the highest attendance numbers; Charlotte Warburg, is getting better; the parents want to travel, they look for a Jewish restaurant in Southern climes; Morti's [Mortimer Schiff] engagement [to Adèle Neustadt] must have surprised even Morti [Mortimer Schiff]; the Loeb family reacted very coolly; Max is very sorry about the death of W. v. O. [Walter von Ollendorff]; advises him to send condolences, also in Max's name, to the wife of Walter; Max has become a 'Privatdocent', teaching the young v. R. [von Rothschild] how to play 'haute banque'; old Meyer Amschel [Rothschild] used different business methods, he gave every son Gulden 10,000; is very pleased that Mary is feeling better; Max and Alice Warburg no longer attend evening parties, the one exception was a visit to Senator Dr. Hertz, where they also met [Alfred] Lichtwark, Carmen Hertz-Eggert; Max is very pleased with the result of the municipal election, everybody expected that a dozen Anti-Semites would be elected, but not a single one was elected; Alice is very well, she is painting Mr. Sander
