| Contents | congratulates her and Warburg on the good news of Mary's pregnancy; hopes that Mary will take it easy; Nina hears so very little from her Hamburg family, only via Charlotte [Warburg], who is in Nice; Alice [Warburg] excels in her silence; Nina has come to the conviction that egotists are the only useful people on earth; hopes that Panina will find the way to the 'majority', once they know where they will settle for good; she wants a decision fast, which is the reason why they will postpone their departure; Ballins are also expected and Paul wants to talk to Ballin; requests from Max [Warburg] and Moritz [Warburg] a statement either that they cannot work without Paul or that they will give him freedom to decide for himself; she is much better than last winter; is very happy that Mary's parents and siblings do not try to influence Paul one way or another;continues on 31/01/1902: she went to Cincinnati to visit her old uncle [Albert?] Stern; thanks for Warburg's letter, for Alice's long letter; wants to know when Mary's baby is due and where Mary will be; has she employed Mother Petzoldt?; acknowledges receipt of Mary's letter which tells her that the date is 09/07/1902 and that Mary wants to be in Hamburg; Panina [Paul and Nina Warburg] will sail with Prinz Heinrich [von Preussen] and Ballins on the 'Deutschland' on 11/03/1902; wants nothing more than a decision, she is restless, she cannot feel anything any more; how did [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] like the group photograph of the five children and two mothers?; one photograph should have gone to grandmother in Frankfurt, could Mary see to it that grandmother receives one print?; Nina's parents are very happy with their grandchildren Bettina [Warburg] and Bubi [James Paul Warburg]; Charlotte [Warburg] wrote that Franziska [Jahns]will go to Olga [Kohn-Speyer], what are the news from her?; is happy that Mary is working with Miss [Wilhelmine] Niels; Mary's bust of Detta [Marietta Warburg] has arrived in New York and has impressed everybody; it is more beautiful than the drawings for the Bismarck monument which Warburg has enclosed; mentions 'our' Emperor who is a very wise man, the preparations for the visit of Prinz Heinrich in the USA etc.; it is a pity that the Emperor himself cannot travel to the USA; wants to know whether the double portrait of the parents, painted by Jan Veth, is finished |
