ContentsMary received Warburg’s letter of 29 November; if his work is slowing down, then that is to be accepted given the low temperature in the archive; at what temperature does he work? – her studio has got around 13-14 degrees Celsius, never more than that, because they don’t like it. The previous day, when Mary had just written to Warburg about the Jacobs family, Emmy contacted her and joined her for breakfast; today they meet in town to go to Cassirers and others; mentions the question about Guatemala where many coffee plantations were destroyed [by an earthquake]; discusses the position of the Jacobs family [coffee producers] and their problems, lack of correspondence [with their plantations in Guatemala]; she visited the Hirschkühe [? literally: deer cows] who she found glamorously dressed and engaged in witty conversation with Mrs Pospischil; they talked all at the same time; she really cannot stand them, and feels like interrupting them with entirely inappropriate comments; at the Embden family home the previous evening things were better, Mr and Mrs Petersen were also there and send their greetings; she believes that they find her rather incomplete without him [“without my little black funny husband”]; Embden wonders whether Aby and Warburg might not want to travel with him to Freiburg after Christmas for a couple of days; Mary asks after Adelia and looks forward to seeing Warburg in 14 days' time
