Contentshis arm is getting better, but he suffers from lumbago; tells of other mishaps which happened to him in Heligoland; two days ago he attended a meeting of the hayfever sufferers; people were annoyed because there was too much hay in Heligoland; the previous evening he had a good conversation with Miss [Martha] Sauber and Miss [Hedwig] von Holten, Hartlaub and his wife and [Ernst] Ehrenbaum with his wife, both from Biologisches Institut; is pleased that Mary keeps on working on the Alice Warburg portrait; would be happy for Detta [Marietta Warburg] to start school in the autumn; he cannot entertain the thought of going travelling with Friedaflix [Felix and Frieda Warburg] [to the Loire castles], it is impossible to share new impressions with them; does not allow Detta [Marietta Warburg] to stay on her own at Kösterberg; comments on the reading matter, stories from the Bible: 'biblical history is the ontogenetical vaccine for the human phantasy'
