Schwill,also Schevill?] portrait of Paul Warburg and [Hermann] Bruck's portrait of aunt Malchen [Amalie Goldschmidt]; Paul also took part, playing 'Serenissimus'; is happy that [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] and their children have a good holiday in Fanö; thanks him for a copy of the 'Sassetti' article; is very happy that he has his own copy, he had to read it several times to undestand the text, as Warburg tries to put into one word a whole bundle of ideas; finds the Sassetti document a very interesting document, the key to the thinking and feeling of an era; praises the article, detailed appraisal: finds that it could have been longer, more on Sassetti, the man and merchant; it should have been published in a cultural history of Florence and should not have been forced artificially into the Festschrift; Warburg's work is a mosaic and Paul wished he would have painted a much larger picture; does not find the passage on Fortuna convincing, more should have been on Rucellai |
