| Contents | he travelled the previous day, had to get up very early; there were two Swabian engineers in his first class compartment who ate all the way; in Verona a Swabian couple joined them; Warburg enjoyed the conversation; suddenly Marcks and his wife appeared in the train and introduced him to an archaeologist from Leipzig, [Franz] Studniczka; Warburg had a touch of rheumatism on the journey; in the morning Warburg met [K] Dyroff, a 'serious, heavy scholar'; Dyroff cited special literature, Warburg excited Dyroff with his conversation, but the Decans are mysterious even for Dyroff; he thanked Warburg for the 'astrological breakfast'; afterwards Warburg went to the State Library to view the Wenzel manuscript with the astrological signs, but found that the figures are nothing more than a copy from the Alfonso manuscript; this was important as Warburg could reconstruct lost traces of Decans; he has to return in two days on Monday, and will leave in the afternoon for Kissingen, a journey of nine hours; hopes that [Wilhelm] Waetzoldt will have told her of their research in Italy; Warburg met Mr. and Mrs. Hesse in Munich; is cross that Mary missed the [Fritz] Schumacher lecture; how is her work on the Anna [Warburg] bust proceeding?; is pleased that she bought a sewing machine; tells her to buy a pretty hat and outfit for spring |
