| Contents | is sorry that he has not received her letters; could they have got lost?; she forwarded a lovely letter by [Paul] Clemen about his visit to Warburg's library full of admiration, a little letter by Miss Margaret [Thurnham], sent already on 03/01/1915; it had an enclosure, a photocopied article from 'The Times' about Paul Warburg's and Jacob Schiff's influence on the US President, which Mary has not forwarded as Max Warburg wanted to have a copy made; encloses a copy of a letter by Carl Jost which she has sent; he is wonderful chap!; they want to fulfil his requests; Frede was inundated by letters from the soldier [W. Huart] to whom she sent a Christmas parcel, a roofer from Breslau; his letters are charming, he also sent a poem describing their dugout shelters, but Mary is certain that he has not written it; uncle Empel [Heinrich Embden] also sends satisfactory letters; [Carl] Melchior said he looks very well; Melchior is enthusiastic about his experiences in Poland; Paul [Warburg] sent a letter to mother Warburg, but Mary does not want to forward it to Warburg as it contains Paul's view on Jacob Schiff's endeavours, which Paul finds commendable; the children are fine, Detta [Marietta Warburg] had to write an essay and wrote 23 pages; repeats the information that Mrs. Saxl and her baby daughter stayed in Heilwigstrasse; they left for Vienna the previous day; Mrs. Saxl had been very agitated, the cables from Vienna were truncated, she did not know whether or not she should travel to Vienna; they stayed from 02/01/ to 05/01/1915; it was better like that for Mrs. Saxl, Mary could help her; tells him to thank Panconcelli-Calzia for his letter; she is very happy to know that Warburg is travelling with such a good friend; she has received Warburg's letters, they take three days; is pleased to read that everything seems relatively favourable; she has forwarded 'Hamburger Nachrichten' and wonders whether the newspaper has reached Warburg; they continue with their work on the bibliography; sends greetings to Panconcelli-Calzia, [Emilie and Alceste] Giorgetti, [Paul Gustav] Hübner |
