| Contents | replies to Warburg's project of a 'Volksheim für die Führenden aller Schichten', a purpose-built centre for the education of the citizens; shares Warburg's view to involve the leaders of the community in the great new tasks facing Hamburg; he stresses that persons need to work together as individuals, not as representatives of organisations; on the question of requesting membership fees; they want to have the aristocratic elite, not just anybody who joins because membership might be free, otherwise it would be a second 'Patriotische Gesellschaft'; on the programme of such a centre, the lectures need to be first-class, they need to publish a Yearbook of Hamburg culture; wants to involve men and women, but is not sure whether there needs to be a purpose-built centre; it would be enough to rent a few rooms; to buy the Curiohaus is too expensive, the donors, who present a sort of aristocracy, could be tempted to influence the proceedings unduly; advertising the project will also be difficult, as people will make objections to the remit of the new centre, stressing that the remit of the new centre looks exactly like the tasks the Patriotische Gesellschaft is involved in; it is a moot question whether such a centre would serve the student population, the people employed by the research institutes will not need such a centre; suggests that Warburg calls a meeting of people interested in the project to discuss whether, how and when such a project should proceed; suggests himself, Max Warburg, [Carl Wilhelm] Petersen, [M.R.A.] Mittelstein, [Fritz] Schumacher, Prof. [Paul] Sudeck, Miss Dr. [Gertrud] Bäumer, [Friedrich] von Borstel, [Emil] Krause; he will return to Hamburg on 20/08/1918; enjoys his holidays with his two eldest children and nephew Wilhelm [Wilhelm Adolph Hertz]; enjoyed reading Warburg's Luther book |
