| Contents | detailed report on the two day meeting in Kiel; there was a reception, he spoke with Bernhard Harms and [Fritz van] Calker; both found it right that Max Warburg should not give a speech, [Wilhelm] Niemeyer agreed; [Bernhard] Harms spoke well the next day, but not thoroughly enough; Calker was more in line with [L.L.] Schücking's talk; in the afternoon there was a discussion, Professor [Ferd. J.] Tönnies, Waldstein, Geheimrat Beer, Geheimrat Simons, Professor [Moritz] Liepmann, Geheimrat [Albrecht] Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Max Warburg; he was asked to give a speech and he could not refuse; all the other speakers spoke without any practical knowledge of the problem, whereas Max Warburg spoke as practitioner; they reached unanimous agreement which was very important as representatives of the Chamber of Commerce from Bremen and Hamburg were present and had been instructed to reject as much as possible; but nobody was against Max Warburg's proposal, even the representatives from the army and navy agreed with him; fears that he will be voted onto the board of the mixed committee in order to hammer out principal considerations for a League of Nations; in the evening there was an official dinner |
