Contentsalthough she has replied to his letters, her tone is ' like a stone'; is angry with her, she should not be so cowardly, complains that his own family allows him to go to pieces; at home he is in the midst of friends, family and in his library, in Jena he is on his own, his mind is deteriorating, he can hardly read any more; they have to come and visit him otherwise [Hans] Berger has him sectioned; reminds her that she has married him 'for better, for worse'; can no longer go for walks, is forced to keep to mealtimes, has pains in the heart, arterio sclerosis, but all, that his family wants, is peace and quiet; he lives as if in hell; everything is revoltingly dirty; tells her to look for somebody for the library, so that 'the experiment will not fail'; the staff are heartless, the doctor brutal; he went for tea the previous day; Mrs. Berger and children are fine, but the doctor allows F. H. [Nurse Frieda Hecht] everything; also Nurse Sophie is an 'evil character'
