| Contents | Lili writes: Mary is working hard, Lili thinks the bust is really going to be beautiful; Lola [du Bois-Reymond] [Lili's daughter] will come and have a look at the bust, Lili is very interested to find out whether Lola likes it; Mary and Lili have often spoken about Warburg during the sittings; is very happy to hear that Warburg is working hard to prepare a lecture; would like to read it; on 01/05/1923 Lili will go on holiday with Miss [Loulie] Dresel, Dresel wants to paint, Lili wants to write, it wil be her way to come to terms with her life; Mary helped her greatly; she was also able to meet understanding people, the sisters Embden who were very good to Lola and Lili, Beckeraths who were very kind to Jens and little Viola [Viola-Renate Horwitz, daughter of Lili's daughter, Lea Horwitz, née du Bois-Reymond]; she also spoke with Wilhelm von Beckerath and knows how much he loves Warburg; Lola has come and finds the bust very well done; Mary writes: Max Adolph has left with Eva [Hertz] via Berlin and Stuttgart to Calw and will then travel to Heidelberg; he has to stop in Heidelberg to leave his books and slides there before continuing for Kreuzlingen; he will bring a cabin trunk; Mary thinks that Saxl will bring back with him books and slides; Mary was very happy with Saxl's letter, will reply to him soon; next day his wife and children will have tea with Mary; Lola found Mary's bust of Lili du Bois-Reymond very good, especially the profile; Mary is quite satisfied with her work, even if the bust is not as 'simplified and monumental' as she would have liked it; Frankes has left for Berlin, they have to move into a very small flat for now; poor little Liselotte Pauli seems to be tolerably well; Mary is sure that Warburg's lecture will e a success, but the next few days will be hard for Warburg and Saxl; if only she could attend!; Bing told her that she found the book by Voth in the ethnological museum and has sent it to Warburg |
