| Contents | encloses attendance register of [Adolph] Goldschmidt lecture, not complete; the hall was nearly full, Malice [Max and Alice Warburg] and [Julius and Louise] Derenberg attended; Saxl had returned in time and will write a report about the lecture; it was a solid Goldschmidt lecture on illustrated encyclopaedias of the early Middle Ages; Rabanus Maurus, Liber Floridus, Hortus Deliciarum; afterwards Max [Warburg] took Mary, Adölfle [Adolph Goldschmidt] and Pauli in the car, the others, Max Adolph, Panofsky, Salomons, Cassirer, Percy ernst Schramm [and wife], Saxl, [Paul] Ruben took the train or walked to Rabenstrasse, where a buffet dinner was waiting for them, Max Warburg gave an amusing speech, mentioning Adölfle; Mary received two charming letters from Jacques and Clara Mesnil [Jacques and Clara Dwelshauvers], one for her and one for Warburg; son Lorenzo has got married for the second time, is an architect in North Africa; Flederchen [Frede Warburg] has gone to the baptism of Roland Haff, is his godmother despite the fact that she herself has not been baptized; Mary was happy having seen Warburg's handwriting on the envelope, in ink; next day the family will come to Mary for the New Year's eve meal; it is very cold, minus 7 degrees and snow on the ground |
