| Contents | his arm is giving him trouble, the boil is very big, Ludwig Binswanger wants to get Dr. Sträuli to have a look at it; Dr. Lexer would not be able to do anything for Warburg; it started on 24/03/1924, he put a plaster on the boil; on 26/03/1924 Dr. Benda opened the boil; compresses; on 28/03/1924, the wound was hardening, Julius Derenberg had a look at it and did not find it dangerous; Ludwig Binswanger said to Warburg that the boil present 10% of a life-threatening situation; on the next day the wound was red, Warburg complained to Ludwig Binswanger who asked Sträuli to come; tells Mary to bring with her the large suitcase; tells Mary to inform [Heinrich] Embden right away about Warburg's boil; asks Mary to send a copy of his Ferrara research to Davidsohn with the enclosed card [no longer extant]; continues on 30/03/1924: the boil on his arm is filled with pus, Dr. Sträuli will come in the afternoon and lance it; Grethe (or rather Louise) Stein is a friend of [Alfred and Anna] Doren, Warburg remembers her as a nervous woman, likes the letter very much [Warburg refers to a letter from Mary which is not extant]; hopes that Louise Stein can be helped; Warburg can remember another man very well, [Eduard] Fraenkel, is very happy that he found work in Kiel; Warburg went with him for a walk after the Luther lecture; Warburg has not had any post from Max Buttje [Max Adolph Warburg] in Sicily; Sträuli has seen him, has ordered hot compresses to be applied; Dr. Sträuli does not think anything of Binswanger's diagnosis; Warburg wonders whether Max Adolph might have met Saxl in Palermo; asks Mary to have Japanese boxes made; refers to an illustration of Mrs. Dr. Wohlwill, he finds the mouth looks like a rodent and the nose like an African; the illustration makes her out to be more beautiful than she is, otherwise he would have recognized her; wonders what Frede will turn to on her path of research; could Mary and Detta [Marietta Warburg] together visit Warburg?; wants that Detta [Marietta Warburg] waits with starting her employment in the hospital [in Frankfurt] until after Max Adolph's return; wonders about Max Adolph's life with the Spohr family; his boil is itching badly; orders three copies of Schifanoia article; wonders about the size of the offprints; suggests to Mary to check his astrological collection, in the cupboard to the right of the dining room door to the study, hopes that she will find the Farnesina [recte Schifanoia] sketch in a brown envelope there or in one of the leather bags with the photographs; Sträuli thinks that the hand will take eight days to heal; greetings to Datzen [Marietta Warburg], Apollonia Frederica [Frede Warburg] |
