| Contents | explains where Mary can find the Keller poem, it is a draft, written on his deathbed at the beginning of 1890, according to what Baechthold [recte Baechtold] in Kreuzlingen told Warburg; it was published by Baechthold [recte Baechtold]; Warburg copied it for Datz [Marietta Warburg] and enclosed it in his birthday letter; if it does not arrive in time, Mary should read out the poem for Datzen [Marietta Warburg]; likes Mary's calendar cards, would like landscape format, but would on the whole prefer printed cards; is disappointed with Max Adolph's letter, had hoped that his son would write something about Mercury; Warburg also has notes on Vulcan; is disappointed that Max Adolph does not stay in Hamburg until Marietta's birthday; agrees to Max Adolph's trip to Berlin; is interested in the Plethon excerpt; has Mary had a family photograph made?; requests her to send him Krauth; his hands are burning like fire, they do not heal; he may have a look at 'Villa Maria', an ugly old building; an apartment on the ground floor has become vacant; the only problem would be that he will be the only occupant of the building, alone with the Nurse; Nurse Lydia has gone to visit her sister, for coffee; Warburg is annoyed that she eats up everything which Warburg does not finish; complains that she does not look after his clothes correctly, handkerchiefs are dirty, collars badly ironed; Mary's cufflinks are two thick, they hardly go through the button holes; what about tula buttons, are they no longer available?; he may try to ring but does not know yet whether he will be allowed to do so; sends special birthday greetings to his daughter; the poem by Keller is only a draft, but 'the rhythm of platonic desire for ascension to the redeeming idea is palpable'; when Keller died he was not in the presence of 'witch' Lydia; Warburg has viewed 'Villa Maria' with Mrs. Dr. Ludwig Binswanger, the rooms are very nice, but the bathroom too small and without a toilet; Warburg then visited 'Gartenhaus', Dieter [Dietrich Binswanger] no longer likes Warburg; Ludwig Binswanger joined them and showed him the very interesting Dilthey - Yorck correspondence; [Hermann Karl] Usener is mentioned frequently; at the end of the meeting Ludwig Binswanger started to be angry with Warburg, does not like him to have everything lying about, he should clear away everything, it will be locked away and when Warburg needs something, he has to ask for the key; in this way Ludwig Binswanger wants to degrade Warburg; despairs; Malice [Max and Alice Warburg] should take him home with them; does not want to meet Mary in Kreuzlingen, because the doctors will force them apart; greetings to Datzen [Marietta Warburg], Federchen [Frede Warburg], 'Bücherstube' [library staff] |
