| Contents | is really sorry that [Heinrich] Embden has left, his visit was very enjoyable; Ludwig Binswanger is a cunning fellow, only waiting for [Heinrich] Embden to leave; tells Mary to tell Embden and Max Warburg that Warburg has agreed to the experiment of his move to Villa Maria only under the condition, that he will never again has to move back to Parkhaus; should the facilities in Villa Maria prove to be inadequate, he has to be transferred to another sanatorium, not to Parkhaus; but he is confident that he will pass this test; Warburg has to insist on it, as on the previous evening Ludwig Binswanger threatened him with the scenario of a move back to Parkhaus; in the afternoon he will view Villa Maria with Mrs. [Dr. Martha] Wenger, she will leave on 20/05/1924; the Nurse should normally have done this, but she is on holiday; encloses two cards, for James Loeb and Dr. [Kasimir] Graff; is very pleased that the Farnesina sketch is with him; next day he will enclose a letter by Max Adolph; he misses the joyful surprise he found in Max Adolph's letters from his first trip to Italy; complains about his son's bad handwriting, finds it 'wormlike'; a thunderstorm is brewing; continues in the evening: he has viewed Villa Maria; finds it squalid, incredibly neglected, except for the rooms earmarked for Warburg; but no cupboards, as promised by Dr. Otto Binswanger, who, by the way, is on leave; he is full of despair; is waiting for comments on his Schifanoia article; Mary has not replied to his question about the bank crash in Vienna; is pleased that Poincaré will leave his post; greetings to children, 'Bücherstube' [library staff], Saxl, Bing |
