Contents | thanks him for his birthday greetings; he spent the day at Kösterberg - despite the hayfever season - and not with his brother-in-law John Hertz [Johann Nicolaus Hertz], as he used to do; he misses John; John's widow Lene [Magdalene Hertz] has to sell the house in Magdeburg and will move to Hamburg; he is at work with a big book; thoughts on the library; it should form the basis of a Warburg family trust which becomes public property after his death; he was disappointed that the family donated M 175.000 to the Talmud and Thora school; he would have used the money to buy a big house; but he feels the family did not have enough trust in him; he finds 'the greatest privilege of the private businessman' to be to 'support scholarship without being a slave to an institution'; he regrets not having had more opportunity to convince Max, Paul or Felix of the importance of his 'Kulturhistorisches Institut' and to peg his income to the annual cost of the yacht; Professor Erich Marcks in Hamburg understands and supports him; they are expecting the visit of his parents and Anna [Fritz's bride]; the relationship is too near, Anna Beata Warburg marrying Fritz M.
