Contentson the H. Vogel affair; no reply yet from [Ferdinand] Avenarius; encloses two articles by Max Jordan, the late director of the National Gallery, who exonerated Vogel [no longer extant]; mentions the Emperor and Heinrich Burchard; Lichtwark apologised by stating that he 'influenced' Vogel to prevent worse; Warburg stresses that the citizens of Hamburg need to put up resistance to Court circles; Vogel painted the 'Triumph of Germania' in 1902, but changed it into a 'Scene from the Life of Luther' in 1904 to cover his tracks; it is despicable that the Senate and the citizens did not have enough courage to send Vogel packing; suggests a title for Max Warburg's organisation: 'Trutzverband der städtischen Kultur'; the word 'Stadt', city, has to figure in the title as it was the town, and not the countryside, which produced 'the present day scientific intelligence'
