Contentsis angry that he has not heard from Warburg for two months; wonders whether Warburg will receive Doren's letter before his departure for the USA; Doren does not like staying in Florence on his own; supplies Florentine gossip: Professor Schiff [Mario Schiff?] and his wife wanted to split up but have reconsidered; Miss Lucciola Krahnstöver does not look like a happy bride, does not think much of moving to a provincial town in France; old Mr. Caro has died, mentions the [Giovanni?] Poggi house; Miss Fitch is more annyoing than ever, mixing with people of the 'Prachthaus'; 'Schmidti' and 'Krani' also frequent the 'Prachthaus'; Miss Hastings has brought along her mother; star of the season is a beautiful Chinese woman from Hongkong; mentions a German painter and her mother; by saying Mrs. Meyer is the best of them all, Warburg will understand how boring the people are with whom Doren is mixing; the German club is not faring much better, Mr. Kuhfus resigned; the new German consul, a real 'Graf' [F.E. von Stumm?], is not a nice man; mentions von Seckendorff, Nolte, [Oskar] Bulle who, with Doren, have managed to keep the club going in the last year; a number of 'philistines' have resigned, the student meals, however, are fun, the older of the young Boecklins is a good man; Ulmann has given a lecture on his Botticelli research, Bulle will lecture on German loan words in Italian; Doren was asked for a lecture but he will not do do so; in the summer Doren's father visited Ännchen [Anna Pietsch], Doren's fiançée, in Zell am See; Doren hopes that the ice has been broken; Doren visited Venice; at present he is working on his article for 'Archivio Storico', which [Alceste] Giorgetti will translate; hopes to finish by Christmas and then move to Leipzig; his correspondence with [Karl] Lamprecht has terminated; wishes him a good time in the US; he will send him a photograph; Warburg should write to Doren in Frankfurt, Corneliusstrasse 24; Bulle's wife had a girl; everybody in the Pensione sends greetings; supplies addresses of American guests, Mrs. Kate B. Howe, 38 Elon Street, Northampton, Mass and Miss F.U. Woodman, Newtonville, Mass.
