Contentsyears ago, when Warburg saw the painting, head of a woman, in Frankfurt, he spoke about the beautiful painting to the Director, Thode, that it looked like a Leonardo da Vinci painting; Thode thinks it is the work of the young Dürer; the name Bartolomeo Veneziano is used by [Ivan] Lermolieff [pseudonym of Giovanni Morelli]; Ulmann agrees with Lermolieff; Warburg sees in her an example of the classical 'demi-vièrge', it could be a pagan priestess or Flora or a 'femina carnivorans'; has no news about the Simonetta painting; the painting by Piero di Cosimo in Chantilly, Simonetta naked, is totally unusual; it must have been painted after Simonetta's death; Simonetta was a captivating woman, but Warburg does not think she had sexual relations with Giuliano de' Medici; she was the adored medieval lady of his heart; about Pallas: the explanations given so far are wrong, it is an allegory, [Oskar?] Bulle interpreted it as the victory of Lorenzo in Volterra; the attribution of the Tobias with the three angels painting to Verrocchio is by Bode and [Adolph] Bayersdorfer; supplies literature on Leonardo; Dwelshauvers can reach him in New York, c/o Kuhn, Loeb & Co.
