Contentsat long last Warburg's letter has arrived; thanks him very much; wants to hear more about Warburg's plans; the previous winter was a sad one, [H.] Ulmann's suicide was tragic; there were some scandals in the German club, duels, Doren does not think it will continue much longer; Litzmanns have arrived in Pensione Laurent; Miss Hastings has made her debut on a small stage; Petris are friendly as always, Mrs. Laurent looks well, Mr. Gigi is fine, Miss Charlotte is fun, coping well with hiding the grief of disappointment; Krahnstövers have not yet arrived; Miss Marcella got married; Mrs. [Jessie] Hillebrand is expected very soon; on his own plans; he has sent off his postdoctoral thesis to Bonn but has not heard anything for weeks; four candidates have submitted their 'Habilitationen' in history in Bonn and have been unsuccessful; Doren, when in Bonn, visited [Max L.] Strack who was very nice to him; asks Warburg to speak up for Doren; Doren wants to stay for one more week in Florence, then go to Siena to work in the archive and then return to Germany; he would like to meet Warburg's parents in Florence, but thinks that he has to return before their arrival; thanks Warburg for having spoken with Doren's father and grandfather [about Doren's marriage plans]; grandmother is difficult, her views are traditional Jewish, but Doren is full of hope that in time she will change her mind; when Warburg will be in Berlin, he has to visit in Landgrafenstrasse 8; the water supply in Florence is still the same, but the Cinciano Mineral Water is drunk by those who want to avoid catching typhoid
