Contentshis letter to a gentleman in Berlin has been sent one week ago; hopes that he will support the institute [Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz]; he has written some ten pages, the summary was not easy; he has not met [August] Schmarsow; he explained that an annual budget should not be less than Mark 20,000; on his work in Hamburg, to select a number of Italian drawings for a publication; there are some 25 exquisite drawings in Hamburg; Lichtwark was very kind to Warburg, told him that he would like it if Warburg would settle and work in Hamburg; feels that the situation is favourable for him in Hamburg; he knows where he has to go one day, should he have tired playing the role of 'outsider', although it will be difficult for him to live in Hamburg permanently; he does not exclude a role for him in the administration of the institute; but he does not even know whether Brockhaus would like to employ him in Florence; also, the institute is still very dependent on Leipzig that Warburg could not even be nominated as representative of the institute [Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz] in Hamburg; he therefore is very unclear about the role he will play at the International Congress of the History of Art in Amsterdam; will Brockhaus attend?; Warburg would attend only if Brockhaus wanted him to attend; apologizes for burdening him with his private problems, but he has to establish himself; sends greetings to his wife; Mary would join him in his greetings, but he is without her in Heligoland to treat his hayfever
