| Contents | he is very astonished that Dr. [Edgar] Kurz has waited with his slanderous remarks until Jolleses have left Florence; it is true that they could not direct complaints against either Dr. [Edgar] Kurz or Dr. [Carlo] Vanzetti about the despicable way they abandoned the Jolles family; the doctors did not give them an opportunity to do so; after Henkie's [Jolles] death, k. [Edgar Kurz] sent a short note and [Vanzetti] sent a note which contained an untruth; neither have visited the Jolles family afterwards, although Vanzetti was in Florence for three days after the death of the child; Warburg can make use of both letters; Jolles thinks that the fact that both doctors did not visit them is proof of their feelings of guilt; the quarrel Warburg has with Miss [Isolde] Kurz has nothing to do with the death of Henkie; in the matter of Warburg's quarrel with Isolde Kurz, Jolles is prepared to make a statement that it was Jolles who drew Warburg's attention to Miss Isolde Kurz's book 'Die Stadt des Lebens'; in it, Isolde Kurz mentions things in an 'indelicate way' which she could only have heard in a personal conversation from Warburg; this was so clear that, although Jolles has not been party to the conversation, he recognized the subject topic which was reported by Isolde Kurz in a twisted way; draws Warburg's attention to the fact that it was Warburg who at first defended Isolde Kurz against Jolles's findings, but had to agree with André Jolles once Jolles showed him the plagiarisms; what [Georg] Roemer has to do with it all, is unclear to Jolles, except for the fact that he is engaged to Isolde Kurz and therefore the future brother-in-law of Dr. [Edgar] Kurz; Jolles is uncomfortable in thinking that the whole affair had started with somebody Jolles himself had introduced to Warburg's house |
