Contentsthanks him for a postcard; everybody is happy with the decision about [G.] Deycke; Deycke is leaving for Georgetown, British Guyana; Deycke can be counted among the leading medical thinkers like Robert Koch, Werner Siemens etc.; hopes that such thinkers do not die out in Germany; the natural sciences seem to be leading, the arts seem to be trailing; mentions the 'disgrace' of the Emperor - Bülow affair [In October 1908 Kaiser Wilhelm II gave an interview to the 'Daily Telegraph' where he indiscreetly revealed his desire for a larger navy. Bernhard von Bülow, who approved the interview, was blamed for the arms race that followed. Bülow held office until June 1909 when he was forced to resign after losing support in the Reichstag and was replaced by Theobald von Bethmann-Hollweg. Bülow served as ambassador to Italy (1914-15) and published a book on foreign policy, 'Imperial Germany'; he died in 1929]; Bendixen has written an article on the finances of the German Reich and will publish a collection of his articles with Lucas Gräfe & Sillem publishers
