Contentsthanks him for a letter and a copy of Warburg's 'interesting essay' [not clear which]; [Hugo] von Tschudi has already sent him the first part of Warburg's article and [Wilhelm Rheinhold Otto] Valentiner has sent him a few notes requesting Tschudi to forward them to Warburg; in these notes Valentiner conceded that he might have gone too far in his attribution of people in the Rembrandt circle; surmises that Warburg had conceded the same; on dating the drawing: links to paintings and etchings can be found, but one should use these only as corroborative evidence and place the dating firmly and foremost on the character of the drawing itself; the 'Kreuzabnahme' cannot have been painted before 1650, but c. 1653-55, Diana and Aktäon likewise, must have been drawn in the early 1660s; is certain that Bode, Bredius and H. de Groot will express the same views; but is very pleased to agree with Warburg in most cases; 'Salomon's Urteil' has been published by Sarre and Valentiner in Richard Bong publishers, Berlin, but Valentiner thinks it is an English imitation of the 18th century
