| Contents | everybody was very disappointed that [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] did not attend the performance, given by the family, the previous day; one girl commented that it would have been too much to have [Enno Friedrich Wichard Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff], aunt Lucy and [Aby Warburg and Mary Warburg] present; the painter [Maurice] Sterne has been staying with her family for one week; they like him as artist and like his selflessness; he has been supported over the years in his studies by a rich American; the American, however, has fallen ill, so that Sterne needs financial support to complete a large painting he has started; she cannot support him as she is not wealthy, a poor relation of the Mendelssohn family; Alard [her husband] and she have commissioned him to do portrait drawings, she was able to convince Mrs. Hahn to have portrait drawings made as well; since Warburg has mentioned that he would like to see works by Sterne, Lili du Bois Reymond has encouraged Sterne to send Warburg some of his drawings; requests to keep the letter confidential; Alard [Lili's husband], Fanny [du Bois-Reymond] and Lola [du Bois-Reymond] [Lili's children] will spend a few days in Oberhof; Lili wants to go to Marburg via Göttingen; Paul will return home for the Easter holidays; |
