Contentsthe earliest he will be in Florence is 23/03/1911; he has sent back the books borrowed from the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz and the reproductions of the picture of Job; he will also return the book by Avventi; at Warburg's previous stay in Florence, Brockhaus drew Warburg's attention to a cycle of stellar constellations painted on the ceiling of the church S. Lorenzo; Warburg has completed his research, after having involved Dr. [Kasimir] Graff, of the planetarium in Hamburg; Graff calculated the time to which the constellations refer; 11,30 a.m., 04/01/1421, Florence; Warburg first could not understand the significance of the date, as he was thinking of a date in connection with S. Lawrence; but then he found out that the high altar of San Lorenzo was dedicated on 12/07/1422 and the day of dedication is celebrated annually; the identification based on the calculation of the constellations and archival research, convinced Warburg that the painted cycle points to the constellations of 12/07/1422 and that it had been painted around this time
