Contentsthey had a good return trip; on the ship they met [Wilhelm] Solf, the former Foreign Minister, at present ambassador in Tokyo, who wants to send them his children; he came to Salem, gave a lecture on Samoa which the school children liked very much; shortly before that lecture they had a lecture by E.D. Morel who visited his son; Morel spoke about his fight against the Belgian administration in the Congo; explains a letter by Geheimrat [Karl] Reinhardt: Reinhardt had spoken with Warburg's nephew [should be: great nephew] Siegmund [Siegmund George Warburg], not with Warburg's son Max Adolph [Warburg] in Heidelberg; on Lina Richter's brother: he was born in February 1871, has married in 1896, has visited the USA in 1896; Lina got engaged in 1896; thanks him for a copy of the Luther book; is very impressed, on melancholy, on Warburg's sentence that by concentrating one can overcome one's depression; can one's own contemplative activity free one from other influences?; she is certain that the scholar who has written such an book can free himself from his melancholy by contemplative activity; like in the Renaissance, what is required today is that the energy of the soul is yoked to therapy for the body; has not understood all terms, like 'teratology' [telling of wonders]; sends congratulations on the occasion of the silver wedding
