Contentsreport on his lecture on Mithras; summarizes his lecture; the mediating position of Mithras who is first the messenger of Helios, then the conqueror of Helios and finally becomes Helios himself; sees the prototype in the Hercules myth; chaos, cosmogony, battle of Zeus with the giants; Franz Cumont thought that this cosmogony arose in an Iranian context, whilst Saxl thinks its origins were Greek; the travel to the land of Helios, where he gets the fruits from the tree of Knowledge, the golden apples of the Hesperides; then he gets to the land of the moon where he finds the bull of light, the carrier of the seed and of creation and brings him down to earth; on earth he sacrifices the bull on the command of Helios; detailed summary on ascent into heaven, baptism, meal; light is nibbled at by the scorpion who drags it into the cave, thus mingling light with dark; E. Panofsky helped him with illustrations, he is the only one who has a feeling for the importance of the history of the image and the history of the idea; re Oscar Ollendorff''s honorary doctorate: the question came at an inopportune moment; some months ago the university of Berlin asked the university of Hamburg to award an honorary doctorate to [Karl?] Scheffler; since Scheffler's books are poor, Panofsky desisted; Bruno Cassirer was angry, but Ernst Cassirer who would have liked to do Bruno a favour, understood that the demand was wrong and the case was dropped; to request an honorary doctorate after this debacle was unfortunate; Saxl has spoken with [C.O.] Czeschka re models for Planetarium; he thinks Warburg ought to be a member of the conference of directors; Saxl will speak with Richard Salomon about it; on H. Meier's PhD: it is getting better and will be finished in two months; does not know what to do with his Mithras lecture, he needs four weeks to work on it in peace; wants to know Warburg's views of the move Miss H. [Clara Hertz];on five pages: a summary of the Mithras research
