| Contents | detailed account of his impressions of the most interesting collections in Leipzig; they are astonishingly similar to KBW, with the difference that Warburg's philosophical questioning informs KBW, whereas [Karl] Sudhoff's positivist questioning informs his institute in Leipzig; the collection of illustrations comprises some 15,000 images; the naked body, anatomy, blood-letting, crucifixion, studies of proportions, mythological topics, portraits of doctors, surgical instruments, healing divinities; on Sudhoff, who single-handedly created the institute with funds by the Puschmann-Stiftung; he reminds him of Saxl's father-in-law; on Sudhoff's method of photographing manuscripts, binding them into books to create a photographic collection of manuscripts; on Sudhoff's method of not buying expensive books, but having individual pages photographed which are of interest to him; was impressed by the caretaker who acts as photographer, typist and cataloguer; he was much more friendly 'than our good Mr. Wendel'; on H. E. Sigerist, Sudhoff's student; Sigerist is giving seminars on miracles, in [Karl] Lamprecht's Institut für Kultur- und Universalgeschichte; research findings on the temperaments: Saxl followed them from Knidos to Bagdad and back to Spain and Italy; on Avicenna; on Dürer's 'Melencolia I': young doctors told Saxl that designs by Dürer represented typical melancholics; back in Hamburg he continued with seminars, Klaus Berger's paper was not very good; mentions [Ludwig Heinrich] Heydenreich and K.A. Kutzbach; Saxl went to Braunschweig; he spoke to Eduard Flechsig who has, at long last, found a publisher for his Dürer book; Doren sends greetings, Peter Saxl sends greeting |
